New Big Data / Data Science service on its way to Danish companies

The new project, Industrial Data Analysis Service (IDAS) centered at the Department of Computer Science, University of Copenhagen (DIKU), will from the beginning of 2016 gather researchers with specialist knowledge in the area of Data Science to advise Danish companies in all areas of Data Science.

The Industrial Data Analysis Service will serve the Danish Industry and contribute to research and education in the area of Data Science. The project is supported with 5 m DKK by The Danish Industry Foundation and will be coordinated by professor Christian Igel.

- Working with Big Data requires expertise in many areas such as databases, parallel computing, machine learning, visualization, etc. - and we have experts in all these areas at DIKU. The goal of IDAS is to make this expertise available to the Danish industry, says Christian Igel.

The IDAS objectives

The IDAS project will start in the beginning of 2016 and, as of now, run until 2018. The funding will be used to:

  • Establish a consultancy service, which will offer a 'single point of contact to the Big Data world' for industry partners, and connect them with IDAS experts in the relevant fields.
  • Strengthen DIKU's educational and training programmes in Data Science.

The project emanates from a Theme Call on Big Data from The Danish Industry Foundation, i.e. a demand for project proposals in areas which are considered to be of considerable importance for the international competitiveness of Danish companies. The Theme Call on Big data was made in the spring of 2015.
