Tenure-track assistant Professors of Human-Centred Computing
The Department of Computer Science, University of Copenhagen, is seeking to strengthen its focus on Human-Centered Computing. We are hiring up to two tenure-track assistant professors working with a focus on technologies for human-centred computing. These positions offer an opportunity to join a globally recognized, highly collaborative group of researchers working at the forefront of HCC.
Research areas of interest include, but are not limited to: mixed reality, ubiquitous computing, haptics, physical computing, social computing, intelligent user interfaces, fabrication, shape-changing interfaces, tracking and sensing technologies, interaction with intelligent systems, computational interaction, and mobile computing.
The University of Copenhagen was founded in 1479 and is the oldest and largest university in Denmark. The tenure track assistant professors will work in the section for Human-Centered Computing. We are currently seven faculty (Pernille Bjørn, Irina Shklovski, Katarzyna Wac, Søren Kyllingsbæk, Kasper Hornbæk, Daniel Ashbrook, Joanna Bergström) who individually and together work on human-computer interaction, computer-supported collaborative work, and medical informatics. Our section aspires to be a top research environment that bridges technology, theory, and empirical studies. We regularly publish at CHI, CSCW, TOCHI, JCSCW, UIST, and UbiComp.
The duties of a tenure-track assistant professor include research and research-based teaching within the educational programs of the department (e.g., Computer Science, Communications & IT). The tenure track assistant professor must have an academic standing showing internationally competitive research, and have internationally recognized high potential to make a future impact. We expect that successful candidates will repeatedly have published at high ranking venues such as those mentioned above or comparable venues.
The assessment of applicants will primarily consider their level of documented, internationally competitive research. The ability to attract external funding will be considered together with outreach qualifications. Teaching qualifications are not mandatory but documented teaching qualifications and teaching experience will be considered.
The starting date for the position is January 2021 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Terms of employment
The position is covered by the Memorandum on Job Structure for Academic Staff.
Terms of appointment and payment accord to the agreement between the Ministry of Finance and The Danish Confederation of Professional Associations on Academics in the State.
The starting salary is currently up to DKK 437.843 including annual supplement (+ pension up to DKK 74.871).
Negotiation for salary supplement is possible.
The tenure-track programme
Successful applicants will join a six-year tenure-track programme. An assigned mentor will provide the tenure-track assistant professors with guidance related to this programme, career development, other academic topics and administrative procedures.
Performance of the tenure-track assistant professor will be assessed via internal yearly evaluations and a mid-term and final international evaluation by an assessment committee. If the final appraisal is positive, the candidate will be promoted to associate professor.
After a 6-year tenure-track period tenure-track assistant professors are expected to meet the following criteria:
- A strong publication track record within the specific field of research, including a substantial number of papers as first or last author based on work carried out during the tenure-track period.
- Strong external network of collaboration, including joint publications.
- Success with attracting external research funding.
- Major contributions to the development of the section, demonstrating an ability to collaborate within the research group as well as independence from former supervisors and mentors.
- Completed pedagogical training (http://www.ind.ku.dk/english/course_overview/up/) and established a teaching portfolio via participation in the department’s teaching activities.
- Successful supervision/co-supervision of BSc, MSc and PhD students.
