CS4ALL - Promoting diversity in CS
At DIKU, computer science is for everyone
CS4ALL is the Department of Computer Science's (DIKU's) community promoting diversity in computer science. Our mission is to bring together and lift up those who are under-represented in computer science at DIKU. This includes anyone that feels under-represented visibly (e.g., gender, ethnicity, etc.) or invisibly (e.g., sexuality, socioeconomic background, etc.). It is important to note that one’s identity is intersectional, contributing to compounding lived experiences of discrimination or privilege. By joining our community, you are agreeing to approaching everyone with patience and inclusivity, without stereotyping or stigma.
Become part of CS4ALL
We really want everyone to be involved in creating change. Therefore, all employees and students are welcome at CS4ALL's initiatives regardless of minority status. This includes both mailing lists and events. However some events and spaces might be catered towards specific minorities and thus might limit access to people outside those groups.
History
In 2021, the first CS4All meeting was organized by a group of DIKU professors based on the fact that women are under-represented in their classrooms and lab environments. The goal of CS4All was to create a sense of community on campus for women and other gender-minorities within CS through organizing networking, keynote presentations, and other social events. Starting in 2025, organizers identified the need for spaces like CS4All to create community not just for gender-minorities, but anyone feeling under-represented in CS. As such, we have developed the mission statement above. We share this brief history in pursuit of transparency about the evolving nature of community organizing at DIKU, with a newfound attempt to acknowledge intersectionality and inclusivity. Thus we are also open to feedback on how we can make sure that we can improve our work on uplifting underrepresented groups at DIKU.
