Title

3D printing the best video game controller

Abstract

I’ve spent my whole life playing games (along with, probably, many of you), and as 3D printing became commonly-available I saw an opportunity to use it. But what is the best video game controller, and how could we print it? I’ll talk about how game controllers are made now and my research into new ways to design them: I’ve looked at sensors and anatomy, and now I’m curious about how these handheld devices could be made adjustable, modular, or perfectly-suited to your own hands and play style.

This talk will be conducted in English.

Bio

Which courses do you teach? User Interface Technology, Mobile Computing, and probably others! I’m also planning to offer an experimental course on Anatomy and HCI. This is my first semester at KU, so I’m still learning the ropes.

Which technology/research/projects/startup are you excited to see the evolution of? I’m fascinated by bioprinting, magnetic monopole printing, printer material recycling, and generally the ways that 3D printers are moving beyond plastics and towards functional, sustainable materials. Though it’s further from my work, I’m also excited for the day I can afford a ticket to space with Virgin Galactic.

What is your favorite sketch from the DIKUrevy? Tough choice; my Danish is still spotty, but I really enjoyed NPC Dating (DIKUrevy 2019) and learned lots of new words from it.
