Title
Deep learning done on microbes
Abstract
Can deep learning help us better understand the hidden world of microbes? Microbes are everywhere—on our skin, in the soil, and even on the leaves of wheat plants. Far from being just passive passengers, some microbes play a crucial role in helping crops survive tough conditions like drought, which is becoming more common with climate change. In this talk, I’ll explore how deep learning—specifically multimodal generative modeling—can go beyond the usual applications in text and images. By combining genetic, metabolic, climate, and hyperspectral imaging data, our models help uncover how microbes interact with plants. These insights bring us closer to more resilient agriculture—and ultimately, a more food-secure future.
