University of Copenhagen ranked No.1 in Europe for HCI research over the past decade
The HCI researchers at the University of Copenhagen have achieved a significant milestone: their research has been ranked No. 1 in Europe according to the latest data from CSRankings.org.

CSRankings is a respected, metrics-based ranking system that evaluates computer science institutions worldwide based on their publication record at top-tier conferences.
This recognition highlights the University of Copenhagen’s long-standing commitment to cutting-edge HCI research and its vibrant academic community. This is especially true for the Human-Centred Computing Section at the Department of Computer Science where the majority of the University’s HCI research is carried out.
The HCC section is known for its collaborative spirit, interdisciplinary approach, and strong presence at premier international conferences.
Barry Brown, Head of Section and Professor, commented on the achievement:
“At the University of Copenhagen, we value deep work in HCI. We have an open and sociable environment that supports quick feedback and the exchange of ideas, and we value ideas as much as other academic contributions. I’ve just been Head of Section for a short time, so I believe we can thank our former Head of Section, Professor Kasper Hornbæk, and of course all the HCC team, for this great success!”
Celebrating diverse and impactful research
The HCC section at The Department of Computer Science continues to contribute to many important discussions.
“Current examples are Professor Pernille Bjørn’s work around diversity in Computer Science for which she has just received DKK 11 million from the Novo Nordisk Foundation. Professor Kasper Hornbæk has also just been awarded a DKK 30 million VILLUM Foundation grant. Finally, the junior faculty of the section contributes with a lot of great work, e.g. Assistant Professor Sarah Homewoods work around chronic illness,” says Barry Brown, Head of Section.
The top ranking is a testament to the dedication and creativity of the HCI researchers, and it reinforces the University’s position as a global leader in computer science research.
