Abstract

Why would anyone borrow an asset they already own—and do it again and again? We will open the black box of decentralized finance (DeFi) lending, where code replaces banks and loans can be created in seconds. Using real blockchain data, I will show what borrowers actually do, why two strategies dominate the markets we studied, what can go wrong, and how computer scientists can build safer products. No crypto, blockchain or finance background is required.
