Unumed lends doctors a helping hand

Case

With the help of the Department of Computer Science, Unumed has developed a prototype that uses artificial intelligence to help doctors read X-ray images.

Unumed and the Department of Computer Science will make life easier for radiologists and doctors when analysing chest X-rays.

One of the biggest challenges of using AI in healthcare is designing solutions that are simple to use and easy to understand. And they must not disrupt the workflows that doctors are used to. For this very reason, the idea for a programme at AI Denmark for Unumed, where the Department of Computer Science has contributed to a possible solution, was born.

Unumed has already developed a solution to help radiologists analyse and prioritise the thousands of chest X-rays taken daily in a hospital. However, they needed help designing a user interface that would make it easier for radiologists and doctors to use the solution.

With the help of Tariq Osman Andersen, Associate Professor at the Department of Computer Science, the collaboration has resulted in a prototype and user studies.

- The process has provided invaluable early insight into how Unumed should design its product in a user-friendly way to maximise the uptake of the AI algorithm, says Chief Science Officer at Unumed, Marco Fraccaro.
