Natural Language Processing

Welcome to the NLP section. We research methods to automatically process, understand as well as generate text, typically using statistical models and machine learning. Applications of such methods include automatic fact-checking, machine translation, question answering, and visually-grounded language learning. We are part of the SCIENCE AI centre at the University of Copenhagen.

Research Groups

Our research is on natural language processing, spanning core as well as emerging topics in natural language processing, natural language understanding, computational linguistics and multi-modal language processing.

Core Natural Language Processing
We research core tasks in natural language understanding, including meaning representations for linguistically general and cross-lingual natural language processing, parsing and transfer learning.

Natural Language Understanding
We research natural language understanding and learning with limited labelled data, including misinformation detection and explainable AI.

Multi-Modal Language Processing
We research multi-modal machine learning at the intersection of natural language processing and computer vision. Our recent work includes image captioning, multimodal translation, learning from videos, and multilingual multimodal representation learning.

Teaching

We offer courses for the bachelor's programmes in Computer Science, Machine Learning and Data Science and Communication & IT as well as the master's programme in Computer Science. For the MSc programme we suggest the Language Technologies study track.
