The field of NLP has developed drastically in the last couple of years. Head of DIKU’s NLP Section, Professor Isabelle Augenstein, is therefore thrilled that Pepa Atanasove has agreed to become a faculty member at DIKU where she will continue her excellent research.

- With the rise of large language models, there is an ever-increasing need for NLP skills. Having won not just one, but two awards for her PhD thesis, we’re fortunate that Pepa will stay on at our department in a new, permanent role. I look forward to following her further career development, says Professor Isabelle Augenstein.

Before assuming her faculty position, Pepa Atanasove earned her PhD and defended her outstanding thesis who received the prestigious ELLIS PhD Award and a Best Dissertation Award from Informatics Europe. Pepa’s PhD was followed by a postdoctoral fellowship focusing on furthering research in explainability.

Pepa Atanasova is deeply honored and excited to join the University of Copenhagen as an Assistant Professor.

- My new position offers a unique opportunity to advance my research in NLP, with a particular focus on developing explainability techniques that improve the fairness and transparency of machine learning models. I look forward to collaborating with colleagues and students, contributing to a vibrant academic community, and driving forward research on explainability. In addition to research, I am eager to contribute to the educational initiatives of the University designed to equip industry professionals with essential data science skills, says Pepa.
