50th anniversary

50 years ago, computer science really took shape in Denmark. Since Peter Naur defined the concept of “datalogi” (datalogy) and founded the Department of Computer Science at the University of Copenhagen - called DIKU - computer science researchers and students have formed the basis for our society's accelerating technological transformation, and today, Denmark is the European champion in digitisation and number three worldwide.

It is a story that officially started in 1970 when DIKU was founded as the first computer science department in Denmark, for which we celebrate our 50th anniversary in 2021 - with a one year delay due to corona.

Our celebration will focus on three themes 1) Computer Science in everything, 2) Computer Science for everyone, and 3) Computer Science for better or worse.

If you want to learn more about our celebration and the three themes, please visit the Danish anniversary website.
