Valeria Borsotti

Visiting PhD Student

My research explores the (re)production of marginalizing norms and values in the university and its digital and physical spaces - especially in relation to gender, disability, neurodiversity and race in science and technology domains.

I have a mixed background in anthropology (MS) and computer science (PhD). As a PhD fellow at DIKU I conducted an ethnographic exploration of the Computer Science department to trace how inequities are reproduced and challenged in its material practices, artifacts and spaces (both digital and physical). My research included creating new policies, a game of provocations, and a series of interventions co-created with staff and students.

My main research interests are:

  • The sociotechnical dimensions of accessibility in science
  • Material culture approaches to researching (in)equities in science
  • Inclusive design/Universal design
  • Experimental ethnography
  • Playful and collaborative approaches to qualitative research.

Prior to my PhD, I have worked in two contemporary art museums (in Italy and USA) and as a special consultant on D&I at ITU.
